Uniting School Communities Through Innovative Design and a New Generation of Learning Spaces
Problem
North Providence's existing Greystone and Centredale elementary schools required replacement as part of a broader districtwide initiative to modernize educational facilities and improve the student learning experience.
The consolidation of the two school communities presented an opportunity to create a unified educational environment that would accommodate students from both schools while establishing a shared identity. The project required thoughtful planning to address increased enrollment, diverse educational needs, and the challenges of constructing a new facility within an active school community.
Solution
StudioJAED, in collaboration with SLAM Collaborative, contributed to the design of the new Woodhaven Elementary School, a consolidated facility bringing together the former Greystone and Centredale school communities.
The school was designed to provide flexible classrooms, collaborative learning environments, and dedicated spaces for music, media, dining, and physical education. Its organization supports a range of instructional activities while creating welcoming spaces that encourage interaction, engagement, and a sense of belonging.
The design approach emphasized creating a cohesive educational environment capable of serving students from preschool through fifth grade, while supporting the district's long-term goals for modern, adaptable school facilities.
Impact
Woodhaven Elementary School establishes a new chapter for North Providence by bringing two established school communities together under one roof.
The new facility provides a modern, engaging learning environment that supports academic development, social interaction, and a strong sense of community. By consolidating outdated facilities into a purpose-built school, the project strengthens educational opportunities and creates a lasting investment in the district's students, educators, and families.
