San Francisco Unified School District
Districtwide Facilities Condition Assessment
One of StudioJAED’s largest projects in our western service region was a full facility condition assessment for 149 buildings, totaling 10 million square feet of space, in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). This urban district, which serves 60,000 students, had deferred maintenance for many years, and its buildings required detailed analysis to determine the total accumulated building improvement needs. StudioJAED field-surveyed all sites, creating electronic AutoCAD drawings and collecting space level and building maintenance asst data, in addition to performing the architectural and engineering assessment.
This information was used by StudioJAED’s architects and engineers to detail building/site deficiencies and appropriate corrections with priority level and reason. Cost estimates were developed to create a recommended capital-planning budget for each school. StudioJAED merged the information into a global database, viewable and up-dateable over the web. This enables SFUSD to perform in-depth querying and reporting at district and individual school levels.
At the conclusion of the study, 13,707 separate building improvement needs were identified, for a total estimated repair/upgrade cost of $300 million.
