Problem
Princeton University desired a “useable” comprehensive condition assessment of its buildings, building systems, and grounds on the Central Campus, Forrestal Campus, and Off Campus properties that directly informed the continuous planning of maintenance and capital projects.
The University consists of over 12.3 million gross square feet of facilities comprised of academic, administration, athletic, dining, dormitory, graduate housing, library, research, residential, and commercial real estate space. The Facilities Operations organization provides strategic direction, planning and execution of the stewardship of over 350 buildings on over 2,600 acres across all campuses.

The StudioJAED team worked with the University over several months to develop assessment standards and protocols, review existing data and drawings, conduct interviews with relevant administrative and maintenance staff, conduct pilot studies, perform onsite buildings and grounds inspections, develop reports, and revise documentation as appropriate.
Impact
StudioJAED’s targeted and tailored approach proved very efficient and effective. All detailed assessment observations and recommendations were provided in a user-friendly database format. All Princeton University reports and customized queries were made exportable to excel providing maximum flexibility to the Facilities Operations organization for current and future project planning.
