MANAGING ARCHITECTURE

Red Clay Consolidated School District

  • Project: Red Clay Consolidated School District
  • Districtwide Renovations & Additions
  • Square Footage: 2,700,000 square feet
  • Scope of Work:In 1999, StudioJAED conducted a thorough facilities condition assessment of 25 schools within the Red Clay Consolidated School District as part of the Delaware Department of Education’s statewide Facilities Condition Assessment. Based on the findings, the District developed a Major Capital Program to address both renovations to existing facilities as well as new space requirements. In 2002, with funding for the work in place, the District retained StudioJAED as the Managing Architect for the entire project.

The scope of work included air conditioning and heating system upgrades, new classrooms additions, library and science labs upgrades, and more. Other key core spaces, such as cafeterias, auditoriums and auxiliary gyms were added as needed to better serve students. Throughout the District, athletic facilities were improved and expanded, building appearances freshened, concerns about student and staff safety addressed by adding building security card access to their existing security systems, and data systems throughout the District were upgraded to meet today’s technological standards.

The Managing Architect process calls for StudioJAED to complete the initial school designs, and deliver a “transition package” to other Architects/Engineers of Record (A/EOR) to complete the design of the individual projects. We monitor each A/EOR for schedule, budget and program compliance.
